Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

Meyer, Stephenie. Eclipse. New York: Little, Brown & Co., 2007. ISBN-10: 0-316-16020-2

Summary
In this third installment of the Twilight series, human Bella and her vampire boyfriend Edward are in their senior year of high school. Bella renews her friendship with Jacob, one of a pack of werewolves who exist to protect their indian tribe from vampires. Jacob and Edward are both in love with Bella, making them love rivals as well as mortal enemies. After a string of murders in Seattle, Jason suspects that someone is creating an army of new, bloodthirsty vampires. Fearing that the violence in Seattle is related to whoever is spying on Bella, the vampires and werewolves team up to protect Bella and the town of Forks.

Critical Evaluation
Like the other books in the Twilight series, Eclipse is a dramatic and passionate book. Full of ancient creatures with equally ancient feuds, the high school dramas take on new depth. While Edward and Jacob are possessed with mental strength and supernatural physical abilities, Bella is clumsy and helpless. Her cautiousness and submissiveness are excused by the text (Edward has centuries more experience and he is looking out for Bella's best interests) but they are nonetheless annoying. Of course, Twilight is already a proven winner with teen girls, and the flaws of the series are not enough to keep the book off shelves.

Reader's Annotation
Someone is amassing an army of new, bloodthirsty vampires in Seattle, just miles from Bella's quiet town. Luckily, Bella's boyfriend is a vampire and her best friend is a werewolf. Normally the two are sworn enemies, but they must join together to save the town, and protect Bella.

Bibliotherapeutic Usefulness
An escapist read.

Genre and Subject
Romance. Vampires, Werewolves.

Why I read it
The sexual tension between Bella and Edward is addictive. After reading the first two books, I couldn't stop without seeing how it ends. Unfortunately, this isn't the final chapter.
